So I'm Back
A lot's happened in the ages that i haven't posted. Adriel's tagged 4 completely inane tags on my board, for instance. And i've got 3.8 flat for GPA ;P and sent in my form for humanities scholarship.
Yeah. Today's sunday. Sunday is a good time for reflection, because it's a balmy and sunny sunday and there are birds chirping and babies babbling. That was 9am. But now that sunday has set in (it's 10:45 now) the birds are screeching (they're mynahs after all) and the babies are wailing (babies will be babies). And it looks like it might just rain tonight. It's still deathly quiet in the neighbourhood, besides the sound of a car every few minutes, and the (probably) bangladeshi sweeper doing the rounds downstairs. Litter doesn't stop for sundays, unfortunately, and therefore the town council believes their cleaners shouldn't stop either.
Yup so it's sunday. And besides reflection is always good for you. I started my reflection playing the poulenc novelettes and 2 scarlatti sonatas. Anything else would have ruined the peaceful quiet of a sunday.
Now I'm in front of the computer and hammering away on the keyboard (obviously). That kind of breaks the peace, but I've decided to call it "deathly silence" instead. It should be everyone's mission to break deathly silences. Peace is good. But death is rather eerie.
So I stopped blogging when the CTs came around and clobbered all of us. Good decision, I guess... pretty good marks for nearly everything, decent marks for physics, shocking numbers for chinese and maths (sigh). Techniques of calculus elude me. And chinese. I've nearly given up on chinese... hope at least we get a decent teacher for chinese next year. damn all the people who've taken their HMT O's. Sigh.
Then we had some weird stuff that all passed in a flash. interclass soccer was a tired joke (for 4Q). 4L pwned haha. So were most of the post CT activities.
last few lessons were fun... we had reflections for most subjects, watched an episode of csi and some of mr tan's funny videos, spent 2 periods of chinese watching the cartoon thing, poetry readings for lit. fun and nostalgia in equal portions?
gep farewell was great. really. from LT2 that smelled of bad socks and sweat to the astro to LT1. my group actually won handball, thx to liu and yap. i "played" in the sense i was on the field and ran about. sigh. Then we went over to atrium and had some catered dinner. better than most times haha. talked about all kinds of stuff, doodled on the piano, as usual. couldn't play anything, as usual.
had speeches from mr mag and mrs low... sang hey jude for the finale thingy at LT1. good stuff. teachers sang "I have a dream" by abba. much better than us. and some reflections by desmond jinghan and dom. then we had the video. brings back so many memories... all those great times in the 4 years in ri. and finally a lot of thank yous. and all the emotions. you can't spend 4 years with 140+ people in rigep without some emotions at the end. sadness, regret, nostalgia and all. like ms johnson said, it gets more emotional each year.
Then last day/grad ceremony. Some reflections, final admin stuff, fun anecdotes from vd and gerald. grad ceremony... nothing really memorable really. HM Koh inflicted a totally irrelevant speech upon us. And mrs tan l.l. talked more rot. some things never change.
And then THIMUN Singapore. first day was a bit sad... ambassadors stuck listening to each others speeches and not lobbying. second and third days were debates on the resolutions, listening to both brilliant and disgusting speeches. and i think i backstabbed every resolution i co-submitted, in the end? my delegation was a bunch of turncoats. and i got quoted as "xueyang tan" in the newsletter, on extending internet connectivity to underdeveloped countries. haha. "we cannot send rice by email; they [starving people] cannot fill their stomaches with the internet"
dinner and dance was a weird confused time. a short walk thru near-total darkness in the zoo to the dinner. some buffet, way better than the catered lunches. and the dance. like the disco in vienna. discos act like fractional distillation... ri/hci pple float to the sides and out of the thing altogether. even though they try their best to look hip. dancing right after dinner only causes indigestion - i won't elaborate.
so that brings me to today. it's still sunday, more than half an hour after i started this journey of memories thru the last few weeks. great times... enriching, fun and all...
i'll miss rigep05.
