Geog Challenge/ABRSM High Scorers' Concert

Today was hot and dry and there was no rain. And I went for a funky geography challenge at NUS. The paper was so difficult... Utter and complete destruction... and the problem solving was horrible... like they give you a satellite photo and ask you what environmental issues are present in the place in the photo.

So I had the ABRSM High Scorers' Concert in the afternoon. 1:30 and i was at waterloo street. It was still hot and not raining. Anyway I didn't expect to meet so many people there.... Sam Tho, Royce, and Nicholas (Adam's nephew). Nicholas is a lot pro-er than i thought haha.

I guess its quite dumb to say that I thought everyone played v. well... its high scorers' after all. Still, everyone played v. well. yay. And the kids like 3 or 4 years old are pretty pro for their age... and they have poise.

In The Long Dark Tea-Time of the Soul Douglas Adams wrote

...he [Dirk Gently] added, "I'm a private detective."

"oh?" said Kate in surprise, and then looked puzzled.

"Does that bother you?"

"It's just that I have a friend who plays the double bass."

"I see," said Dirk.

"Whenever people meet him and he's struggling around with it, they all say the same thing, and it drives him crazy. They all say, 'I bet you wished you played the piccolo.' Nobody ever works out that that's what everybody else says..."

No one's said that to me yet. But they always ask "Why did you pick up the double bass?" with that dirty look that says "Of all instruments, you had to be such a butthead to learn that lumbering big piece of firewood." Nobody ever works out that that's what everybody else says. So i've figured out that if I say "I was forced into it" and mention RISE then they're a lot more sympathetic. haha

Oh jeremy tells me I'm now SNYO SL for double bass... w00t!!! I feel really really good now heh.
